About

The Hip Hop Congress is a growing international grass roots 501 (c) 3 Non Profit Corporation that uses Hip Hop culture to unite, educate, and empower students and the community.. The Hip Hop Congress provides the Hip Hop Generation and the Post Hip Hop Generation with the tools, resources and opportunities to make social, economic and political change on a local, regional and national level. Hip Hop Congress is the product of a merger of artists and students, music and community.

Hip Hop Congress currently has roughly 60 chapters worldwide that engage in a range of activity promoting hip hop culture on their campus or in their community. Chapters produce or sponsor hundreds of events a year focusing on hip hop history and culture, as well as the social and political issues hip hop addresses. Events sponsored include panels, speeches, element exhibitions/battles (emcee/bboy/dj/graffiti), awareness festivals, screenings, etc.

The Midwest region encapsulates a significant portion of Hip Hop Congress chapters.  Each year, representatives from all over the region convene for the Midwest summit, a weekend-long Hip Hop event that incorporates the core values of the Hip Hop Congress through forums, workshops, epic shows, and community service. The summitt has taken place at the University of Michigan for the past three years, and is projected to remain the event’s location  for years to come.  The 8th Annual Midwest Hip Hop will take place February 3-4, 2012.
