Daniel Haywood, known as BRAVEMONK in the Hip-Hop community, is an eclectic, passionate, and energetic soul whose dance was inspired by Gung-Fu, his older siblings, and various street dance styles.
Over the last decade, BraveMonk has dedicated his energy towards mastering the origins, concepts and foundations of Hip-Hop’s cultural dance form known as B-Boying/Breakin. Born just a few hours outside Chicago, he relocated in ’99 and has since been a Chicago resident representing Chicago nationwide in breaking competitions and performances.BraveMonk is an active member of Chicago’s legendary and internationally recognized breaking crew, Phaze II – Crosstown Crew, which was established in 1982. He is also a founding member, active leader, mentor and performer of Awesome Style Konnection (A.S.K.), as well as F.E.W. Collective, a Hip-Hop collective.As an artist and educator BRAVEMONK has traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad performing, speaking, judging, hosting and teaching at many cultural Hip-Hop events. He has also worked closely with the University of Hip Hop, Temple of Hip Hop, Urban Arts in Action Movement, Hip Hop Congress and the Universal Zulu Nation.BRAVEMONK continues to stay active in the competitive dance world and holds 1st place titles in both solo & group competitions with Awesome Style Konnection and Phaze II. It is his mission to utilize his professional talents as an artist and educator to further develop his personal growth and to empower young and old people in realizing their potential through arts education. Despite his busy schedule, BraveMonk is committed to participating in out reach programs teaching both youth and adults about the positive aspects of Hip Hop culture.
